According to their descriptions, it appears that the only difference between grade two and grade one is that there is more red wood (commonly referred to as heartwood) on the grade two bats and more blemishes on the face of the bat.

We found one small blemish on the face of the bat, which is probably why it is categorised as grade 2 rather than grade 1. We think this only adds value considering it is considerably cheaper than the 1.0. We think the 2.0 is great for those who want an exceptional cricket bat, yet they may not bat frequently due to being further down the order.
I just purchased A NEW balance dc10180 and paid around £265 sterlings, and it got 9 grains, initially i thought the cricket bat with 12-15 grains are GRADE 1. The bat was advertised as grade 1 but i can see a knot on the face of the bat at the top, hiding under the sticker. I am not sure having a single knot means the bat is grade 2 or grade 1.
